    To be fair I think people should have been just assuming this long ago. The schools are in an unknown situation and are already spread thin in this country as it is. I had both ways prepped the second we got out of school in June.

    My son was supposed to start pre-k this year but we decided against it. The lady on the phone tried real hard to strong-arm us and even got a little...snippy/argumentive when she INSISTED the gov knew what he was doing. Pre-k is optional in Louisiana anyway....

    She stopped pushing when I asked if the school would be responsible for medical bills if the kids got sick since small children are little plague dens.

    The main reason I wanted him to go was socialization. There aren't any kids his age around here and we don't have any friends with kids so...I feel bad now.

    Having kids is hard. When I was just responsible for myself I would just medicate with food/drinks/videogames.

    My oldest was supposed to go to kindergarten but they announced a 2 day hybrid schedule for all age ranges. How TF do you teach Kindergarten via zoom? She's (almost) 5 and the laws in this state are you can go at 5, but you have to go at 6, so we're going to pull her registration and keep her in her pre-k program at daycare which is going to run a k-prep class for all the kids who would have gone but are not going.

    Best case scenario next year everything is back to "normal" because we found a vaccine that works, worst case, the schools have a year to figure out how to operate like this and next year isn't going to be as big of a shit show.

    Either way I don't want her being a guinea pig for distance education if I can help it.

    Our school system is starting online end of August and likely going through October. After that they will evaluate in person. They also have a virtual learning academy option year long and that's likely what my kid is going to do. You enroll a semester at a time but I just don't see how I can send him back at all this year.
