Tbh I don't even know.. situation is sort've scuffed.. my wife works in a bit of a niche office of a healthcare facility. When COVID happened they basically grabbed the staff of her office and said "this is your thing now" from an ops perspective. At first it was w/e, they stopped doing their regular stuff and got assigned to contact tracing / phones / coordination / general chaos&panic, etc. But that scope has continued to expand and now not only are they doing the antibody tests (just a blood draw, so eh, whatevs) but they want all of them doing regular COVID tests for employees (so not genpop, but OTOH med employees are obviously getting ugly exposure).

Thing is, only a few of them are actually licensed in anything medicine (ie not doctors or nurses). The internal docs they're getting on PPE reuse & don/doff procedure fly in the face of what's on the CDC's website (though this makes me one of those webmd I have brain cancer Karens so idk if they have people who just know better), and on top of that since it's just one subsection of the population (company employees) they have no systems in place to actually do all this w/r/t scheduling or general "don't be fucking stupid" systems. People can just waltz by whenever the hell they want and she's supposed to just randomly drop what she is doing to get grabbed to toss on PPE and administer the test.

That's nutso bonkers to me, but have zero clue what to even suggest doing (other than kick her boss in the shin and bail.. but that reaction is probably why I work on a computer sequestered from other humans). Can't really find anything on any restrictions on who can actually administer a COVID test (other than FDA approving pharmacists to do them, which sucks for those folks lol) and idk.. just seems like chaos which all but guarantees human fuckups and I enjoy not being sick.

I fully understand that with PPE and basic procedures (doing it outside) the risk is relatively low from a raw %s POV, but common sense says you can easily make it lower with simple scheduling / actual systems vs just chaos & prayer figured someone somewhere has had to run into something at least tangentially related or maybe read something scrolling through reddit but I got no clue man. Googling has gotten me all it can so I'm stuck at the "communicate with other flesh bodies" stage of panic

well with reading this, it sounds totally out of scope for your wife to be doing this and a serious health and biohazard. COVID tests (afaik from reading) are considered like EXTREME biohazard/biowaste and only certain trained profs can do it. i dont even think they will let like phelbots do it. you have to be like RN and higher.
i mean if you are serious and really worried about it and the ramifications, call the state health board and say, as an anon tip, you are a SO of someone working thats being made to perform COVID tests and isnt trained to do it.

 

This is what I assumed to be the case, but I cannot find a single document even slightly suggesting it. Forget my wife, they want to have a PREGNANT SECRETARY (I'm sorry, she has a fancy title but she's a front desk receptionist in the office) performing the tests.

...jesus dude asking the most complicated questions after 30 hours of googling can legit sometimes result in the most "duh" advice that actually makes sense.. thanks LOL

 

In Texas they just hand you the swab and tell you to do it yourself and hand it back. I'm pretty sure every ounce of professional accountability has been tossed out the window for this thing, and why I have very little hope atm lol.
