I would probably like it with asparagus. I like the parts other than the green beans.

My choice is macaroni and cheese. NJ went with stuffing, which is also acceptable.

Actually, I've got some bad news for you: it's the middle of the workday here in New Zealand. I just had to hop off the platform to get some other work done for a bit. But you're in luck! I've never even heard of green bean casserole.

It's okay. I'm pretty sure it was invented by Campbells to sell soup

Green bean casserole is really good but don't go into thinking it's gourmet! You can make it better then the normal 'dump cans in and bake' but that's most common

So is it.... mushy? Or chewy? The texture looks like Mac 'n Cheese.

P.S. That GIF looks WAY more judgemental than I intended. I just searched for "confused" in the GIF finder, I swear!

Uhhhh if you use canned green beans the base of it is mushy but baking the french's onions gives it a crunch. If you use fresh green beans and cook them right it's crisp with a creamy sauce with a crunchy topping.
You should see how we talk to each other normally! You'd have to try hard to be rude/offensive lol

The way I have had it is with fresh green beans, so they sorta poach in the canned soup. You get creamy soup and *almost* overcooked green beans, topped with crispy oniony things. It's still not my fav tho lol

also I don't think this is the standard way? I would assume most folks use canned green beans, wish would be mushier - but I may be wrong there.
Dude my mom makes the most banging slow cooker mac and cheese at Thanksgiving. It is seriously one of the best foods I've ever had, ever. I'll send you a portion if you want. It's nothing at all like the boxed stuff (which I hate), it's all crispy and caramelized around the edges and kinda dry-in-a-good-way in the middle.

Y'all making some watery green bean casserole. It's (imo) supposed to be like a cream sauce over the green beans with a crispy topping. I've had that soup casserole though and I can't defend it but I love it. Gross soggy canned green beans, canned campbells soup, french's onions mixed in and another box of them on top. It's slutty food but delicious in that midwestern way.
Oh I've had fresh real mac and cheese with all different combos of cheese and add ins. I've just never heared of it as a thanksgiving side!

We actually do baked ziti which I assume is really off the wall unless you're Italian or from NJ/NY.

That sounds delicious but not at Thanksgiving!
I'm in the gang of cram a small bit of every side and a piece of turkey on the fork and take a full bite. So everything side wise has to go well together. So far it's Deviled egg, yam casserole, stuffing, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce, turkey in one bite.

I'm sad to be missing traditional Thanksgiving this year. I do get to go see my sister and her babies though, so that'll be nice. I'll sure miss that mac and cheese tho...

Try and do a mini one! My husband and I are staying home this T'giving and plan on doing like turkey LEGS instead of a full one and cutting back all the recipes to as small as we can make them. Or better if you don't or can't make a small version; LEFTOVERS!

That's a good idea! I'll be going to sister's in-law's house for the actual day, but could be nice to have a special cooking day before or after. I don't expect much vegetarian stuff will be served, so at least no worry of overeating :emoji_sweat_smile:
