12/01 - 'Tis The Season Tuesday

I never open emails in Gmail via browser or app, only in Thunderbird after they've been deleted from Google's server. I know they are scanned, as well as anything I send through Thunderbird. The point is, Thunderbird is letting Google know what emails I've opened.

A little. This is the first I've ever seen something like this. I didn't know that Mozilla was sending read reports back to Google.

 

There's no reason for it when I'm using POP3 download other than for pure nosiness.

I think so, yes.

 

Sure there is. If gmail archives it instead of a full delete until they confirm you have seen it, they can ensure deliverability. If they let you download it, but you never view it how do they know if you really received it or not? Pop3 was invented in 1984. It might not be 100% reliable in 2020. Just saying

 

It's actually for Unix, apparently. Just in case any of you running DOS 3.11 got excited for a moment.
