Just FYI it's incredibly difficult for workers to find these type of qual tests. This + your lab accounts poor reputation is probably hurting recruitment a good bit.

 

I'm going to accidentally return this surveycomet hit sometime this week I can already feel it.

Regarding the reputation, I saw - nothing I can do, it's one review for a job not posted by me, 1 year ago. I was hoping that once people start doing it, they will share their feedback again, an it will get higher.

It's probably like 80/20 the screening test. Maybe even 90/10. MTurk's UI around qual tests is horrific so it's all but impossible for workers to actually find a test like that.

Also your TV rep isn't that awful.. $4/hr sucks but most folks who pick up the task are likely to give it a shot given the time+low sample, but on TO people are reporting the account for "mass rejections" which is a lot scarier from a worker POV despite I'm guessing being BS given AMT reports the account at 99% approval rating

Either way yeah the qual test is probably the only thing worth focusing on. I'm not sure what the purpose of the test is, tbh I'd fail it 1/3 times just on pure brain farts lol, but it can likely be wrapped into the task and just drop people who are failing it (have them return the HIT, which is a seperate "problem" but the least bad of a ton of bad available options).

 

Ah, thank you so much!! That's super useful. I thought the qualification tests are easy to do in mturk I will try removing them for the next batch, to see whether it changes something.

 

They used to be easier to get to but the worker redesign made them absolutely awful (unfortunately).

Definitely do need some sort of inattentive/non-native checks - especially for collaborative tasks - but I'd just wrap it into the task to work around the qual test UI issues.

 

Then what is the best way to exclude turkers who fail the attention/sanity checks? Just ask them to return the HIT? I wouldn't want to have them submit the hit, just to get rejected afterwards.

Yes just ask us to return the HIT if we fail a check. Happens to all of us from time to time. No big deal.
