    My son has a tablet and a Minecraft obsession so I just lord that over him to get chores done.

    I actually just bought him the Switch version of Minecraft yesterday too so double the pressure double the chores done. Luckily all he really does is mess up his playroom.

    I assume one day he will rebel and Minecraft won't work anymore...so I'll find another game to get him hooked on and the circle will repeat.

    We already have this problem w/ family and it's actually a serious problem. Juice, screens, sugar, artificial everything, processed shit errwhere.

    That "vacation" I took seriously almost ended in murder. I did come back with a renewed sense of "we have to fucking move" though and have been wildly productive ever since so I guess same end result :dunno:

    I’m hippy enough to do it but my wife has more sense and I make enough money that the Uber expensive professional hippy run school will be his place. Lucky we have an awesome option here

    and we're back to sibling status. that's exactly why I showed up to the daily with my "g'morning or is it?" because I just had a long talk with a family member about the junk she gives my son and treats him like an accessory ("can I take him?"). like, he's a human being with thoughts and feelings and opinions and would do better with a meaningful conversation with a loved one than you buying him ALL THESE EMPTY SUGARS THAT WILL MAKE HIM CRASH AND BE A JERK TO ME WHILE HE GOES THROUGH WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS.

    Yea we don't have that here lol.

    Even the "Montessori" schools are laughably trash.

    We went and toured the "best" daycare in town, nationally accredited or some such. All the materials are amazing, then you show up and kids are just binging garbo ice pops ("its a treat!" - no fuck off) and half the things are implemented in the most ass backwards ways that make it clear paying for the sticker was the only attempt at interfacing with the educational framework.

    Actual tour conversation:

    "We have blueberry bushes and gardens they can eat from"

    10 minutes later

    "Yeah we have [xyz] pest control company spray so there aren't bugs"

    Me: "Do they spray the bushes?"

    silence then a whimper of a denial when she knew good and well she had no fucking clue and where the bushes are is a spot that is DEFINITELY BEING SPRAYED
