Actually it wasn't called a "netbook", IIRC that term was already going out of fashion before I bought this. But I think of it as kinda like that. Cheap, light, limited but fine for my usually minimal purposes. Except when I need something more.

 

Technically, some of these studies' experiment software SHOULDN'T require tons of RAM.

The one I was attempting was JUST RECORDING AUDIO, nothing more — and yet it needed to continuously increase its memory usage — why??

Because it was hastily written by some programmer who probably wasn't an expert on managing memory usage.

I mean it was recording small snippets of audio, just a few seconds long, uploading each one, then doing another — that procedure SHOULDN'T require continuous increases in memory usage. The local client-side memory usage should stabilize, without continuously increasing with each step.

 

So I sent a note to the requester. Maybe they can either improve their experiment software to manage its memory better, OR just put a note advising people with less than 4GB RAM to stay away.
