That sweet, orange-colored root vegetable that you love so dearly is actually a sweetpotato. Yes, all so-called “yams” are in fact sweetpotatoes. Most people think that long, red-skinned sweetpotatoes are yams, but they really are just one of many varieties of sweetpotatoes.
    -----------------
maybe it's because I'm tired, but that's not the most helpful google result?

    edit: another result -
Let's clear up one very important point: Sweet potatoes are not a type of yam, and yams are not a type of sweet potato.

Between sweet potatoes and yams, I don't think so. What I really dislike is candied yams I guess.

It's not just you lol. So, are yams fictional or just a figment of our imaginations? Something has to be a yam!

Yams are longer, more tube-like, related more to grasses. That's Library of Congress as a source, so, you probably could use it as a basis.

Ah.. I see. That's a valid point. I mean your point is valid either way lol. I hate the yams with raisins in it and marshmallows on top. I feel the same way about roasted carrots. They are fine on their own, but the candied or honey ones are pretty disgusting :emoji_confounded:

Only my mom and stepdad eat yams during the holidays. Us kids despise them for some reason, lol. I hold out for pie and ice-cream instead.

Get some sweet baby carrots, butter, thyme, parsley, a little bit of Manuka honey, salt, white pepper, and they are amazing.
Or roasted with a big roast, baby reds, pearl onions, and garlic-delicious

Oh, so pretty much all of the "candied yams" we eat in America are actually sweet potatoes. Interesting

Here's an article about the difference between sweet potatoes, yams, and cassava to make things more clear or confusing lol https://he.utexas.edu/hdfs-news/sweet-potatoes-yams-and-cassava

The second one sounds delicious, but I think I'll just have to take your word for it on the first one :emoji_sweat_smile:

The yams we had in India when my dad was in the military, almost looked like a ginger root, with arms and legs.

American sweet potatoes are more like American people- Round, fatter, sweeter, less brown. :emoji_joy:
