05/29 - More Monday!

Oh man, ticks are the worst. We had a burn it with fire discussion the other day. Be strong! If it makes you feel better, I once retrieved my Eskie from my father after several weeks in the hospital and he had 7, SEVEN, ticks on him. Sufficed to say, I never asked him to watch my dog ever again.

 

Two summers ago our smaller dog got tick paralysis from a tick. He ended up okay but I'm nervous. We get our yard sprayed for ticks, too, and we use the flea/tick stuff on them. Vicious things. I had to put a t-shirt on him to stop him from trying to eat it.

 

You mean it's under the skin?

 

Yes. My husband tried to get it with tweezers and got some legs but the rest is still stuck in there and we can't get it out. Have to call the vet in the morning.

I'm sorry, that's rough.With my dogs, I use a doggy safe insect repellent spray on top of his monthly flea/tick stuff because living on a farm it's super easy to pick things up anyway and they like to swim in the creek. You could ask your vet about it when you see him/her if you wanted. Or not, I'm just a friendly stranger relating what works for me! Bearnie is allergic to most flea/tick meds so we have to be super careful with the dogs or he gets eaten up.

Thank you. I didn't know they made that so I'll ask. CT has a really bad tick problem and we live in the woods so it doesn't help.

 

@ChrisTurk has a tick problem? I don't completely understand but I feel like that somehow explains the diet and the insanity.

in my last house we had a tick.... problem. It was the middle of arizona high summer, so we hadn't walked the dogs in a while, so I'm pretty sure it came from the neighbors...

Anyways, ticks were suddenly on both dogs and in the house. Climbing the walls... The dogs got medicine and I put down a lot of "safe" remedies I researched. I sat down and deticked the dogs twice a day, every day. (shudder). Two weeks went by, no results. I went out at 0500 AM one day (before the heat got above 110) and cut down a tree in my yard that I read might be hoarding them. Fought it for another two weeks with no change... Hung my head and called an exterminator. Had to have them come back twice to respray.

edit: I put medicine on the cat and checked her but as far as I could ever tell, she never got one.

 

OMG what a nightmare! Sorry you had to go through that.

We only have a little more than an acre but our house is surrounded by woods, not sure if our neighbor across the street would appreciate that lol.

I'm late to the discussion - but when I was younger - I had a tick on mis huevos. I was young enough to not really know how to deal with it on my own, but was old enough to know that I didn't want my mom and dad having anything to do with a bug on my balls.

The entire day I dreaded how to go over this with my parents. How do I tell my mom/dad that I have a bug on my balls. Can I deal with this on my own? Should I show them? Fuck this sucks. Maybe suicide would be easier. I'm too young to die.

Welp, I ended up telling my mom - who told me to tell my dad - and he gave me tweezers and I got that bad dog off my balls. It went better than expected.

However, that was one of the worst days of my life.
