Why do you think people on another platform would need or want your MTurk ID?

 

The way they explained it is that they sometimes host the same survey on the two different platforms, so they wanted your mturk id, to make sure people weren't doubling up on the same survey.

 

I had seen and done many of their surveys on MTurk before receiving an email from Connect to sign up. During the sign up, when asking for the MTurk ID it was something stated like (paraphrasing from what I recall) "We conduct surveys on MTurk. Providing your ID will help us direct surveys to you..." So I assumed.... Just real hard to know who / when to trust.

I guess when they keep changing their name it's hard to keep up with their reputation for fuckery. Turkprime aka CloudResearch aka Connect have been killing MTurk over the years. I've looked into them a lot and still not entirely sure what their purpose is beyond gerrymandering the participant pool. "Baffle 'em with bullshit" seems to be their modus operandi. I personally think it takes a lot of nerve to ask someone for personal information from another platform.

isn't giving identifying personal information against most of the platform's TOS? Isn't the user ID just that? That's how I feel about it (or at least what I say when confronted).

 

So again I'm new. When I do a survey for Cloud on Mturk (or for anybody) they are collecting my MTurk ID. So would they not already have that info? Also Amazon is collecting our data and doing what with it???? I appreciate the comentens and perspectives of those of you with years of experience, I really do. I think from my point of view it is hard to know where the line is between beneficial to getting work - making money and losing work - losing privacy...

 

That 10$ Survey about societal issues on Connect was nice, fast and easy. Catching the $30 Jury would be nicer.

Yeah. Too bad. The mystery of demographics. Remesh doesn't like me on Prolific either.

 

If you do a survey on MTurk they often ask for your MTurk ID so you can be paid. This is normal. But if you give that same ID to another platform like Cloud, Connect, or whatever they call themselves today, they can cross reference that data and manipulate your access to studies that you would have probably been able to do, prior to them getting your ID. It could be a fatal error if you already have CR#2.

I've had studies on Prolific where I'm asked if I work on any other platform and my answer is always "no". Nobody's business.
