Someone should try to approach Amazon and pitch this brilliant idea - a crowdsourcing platform built right into AWS. Tell them you can deploy it that same day. Then just collect your reward, plug MTurk's servers back into the power outlet, tell the Payments department about this "new MTurk thing", and leave.

There was a huge data breach of SSN's recently. I wonder if people are getting flagged for having two Amazon accounts with the same SSN as scammers start building accounts.

 

From what I understand, Amazon Pay technically supplanted Amazon Payments. Amazon Payments isn't even really a thing anymore, it just exists for purely legacy reasons like, well, MTurk apparently. If you log in to payments.amazon.com/aes/overview you can't even do anything there anymore [edit: I would caution against touching any bank accounts you see there, don't try to verify them or anything like that, could be a bad idea]. It's just a relic at this point. Which is exactly why I think there's a slight chance they are trying to finally kill it, or accidentally deleted something, or whatever.

 

Last month Turkopticon actually gave people stipends while their accounts were suspended and then got their accounts reversed all in the same week for the same freaking issue...

I think there's also a possibility that they are actually trying to transfer these old MTurk accounts from Amazon Payments to whatever the new system is and that's why it's happening on a rolling basis. Maybe once they finish transferring all those accounts they'll remove the code from MTurk that checks their "standing" with Amazon Payments and they'll all be unsuspended. Idk, I'm just eating a greek yoghurt and having random thoughts here, don't mind me.
