08/29 - Trying again Thursday

This is actually a really really good idea so I don't want to discourage the idea of this being involved, but just to add to the anecdotes, I just checked and mine wasn't exposed in the breech.

 

I placed a Freeze and a Fraud Alert with all 3 credit Bureaus.

 

if you do a fraud alert, do they bother you? if you do a freeze then does that mean no one can steal your identity? or at least your credit? so like if anyone applies for anything where they check your credit, then they will say no? my mturk/amazon account is fine and working, I just am trying to avoid this problem you guys are having.

 

My account was suspended on the day of a transfer. Transfer went through okay like others. I'm wondering if that is what triggers it?

I believe it's random and a glitch, but I have no more info than you. My transfer went through fine yesterday and my account is fine so far.

 

Thanks for that, and I hope your account stays safe. I work with Turkopticon now and we are trying really hard to get any kind of answers from Amazon for everyone.

 

I have one scheduled for tomorrow and have definitely been feeling nervous about that possibility today

 

If someone tries to open a credit card, bank loan, car loan, etc., the bank won’t get a report from the credit reporting agencies (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) that you have a freeze in place. As I mentioned earlier, it won't stop someone from opening an Amazon account in your name using your SSN, but overall, it’s a solid move to protect yourself, especially after this recent mass leak of SSNs.

 

Fraud alert messages notify potential credit grantors to verify your identification before extending credit in your name in case someone is using your information without your consent. (This was the 1st quick step I took because a fraud alert with any of the credit bureaus will send it to the other two.)

A Freeze cuts off access to the credit reports and helps prevent someone from opening new accounts. For instance, if I wanted to open an account that verified my identity through one of the credit bureaus, I would need to log in to unlock the Freeze for that to happen.

 

I believe Turkopticon can eventually get something done, I mean this is so widespread. I also believe you all helped get my account unlocked when it was unfairly suspended before, so thank you for that! I even ended up donating some of the held up funds to TO under @Kayashi's name and email address

Good luck with this all, I can only imagine how swamped TO is with all these suspensions.

Fwiw, I've had two transfers go through ok since this started, this Thursday and last Thursday.

I hope they get everything fixed soon, the anxiety of not knowing if I'll be suspended or not is nuts, and y'all should all be turking too!

 

We are busy for sure, but it is what we are here for, and THANK YOU for the donation, they all help so much. We are going at this from several angles but one that workers can help with is our public cry for answers. We are also going to be talking to journalists to see about getting a story written like we did earlier this year.

 

I just got both emails about an hour ago that my transfer is going through.

At this rate, I don't even think that it will be fixed, though maybe I'm just a cynic. This wasn't a one-off incident, they already suspended/banned a wave of workers back in May/June. The fact that they did it again feels to me like they are slowly rolling out the suspensions overtime.

You can do it online. It's fairly simple. Just go to each reporting agency, sign up, and freeze.

I personally have had a free Experian account for a long time. It's a good idea to be signed up with at least one agency since you can get a copy of your report now for free instead of having to pay for it like the old days.
