I decided to sign up for the Funimation Now free trial. I confirmed that the trial was activated on my account.
I download the Funimation Android app so I can stream it to my Chromecast. I log into the app.
The app says that I need to go online to activate the trial. It redirects me to the Funimation website.
The website says that I already activated the trial and it redirects me to the Google Play Store to get the app.
I open the app again through the Play Store. I log in. The app says that I need to go online to activate the trial. It redirects me to the website. The cycle is endless. -_-

 

They've approve the HITs lightning fast, so I hope by Monday...

 

I mean Funimation has always been pretty garbage. At least Crunchy is only slightly less bad.. but there is a reason that I watch fansubs for everything that I can still even if I could afford the subs.....

 

Well I normally do use Crunchyroll for my anime consumption, but with the Crunchyroll/Funimation partnership and the price drop on Funimation Now, the shows that I prefer as dubs have found their way to Funimation Now.

 

Ah I guess if you prefer dubs a lot of the reasons that I go for fansubs don't matter. (Typesetting and translation quality at the very least) although funi still doesn't know how to encode videos so the video quality isn't the best.

Funimation does have a good VA pool / team for the dubs though at least so it isn't as awful as dubs used to be in the SD and before era.

 

i called it quits on Crunchy when they cut off the Samsung Smart TV app last yr

 

I would love to pay for a crunchy sub if they got their shit together.. but they would have to completely redo their video player and retrain their subbers for me to do.

I did pay $300 on the muv luv kickstarter though.. so it isn't like I'm not willing to pay money for the stuff.. I just am not going to pay for something when the free option is higher quality.

 

Wow, kind of surprised I caught this on first try. Is there something wrong with this survey? Usually people grab up these more expensive surveys

 

Not sure why they say fast internet connection. I really hope nobody here is suffering on something slower then 5mbps.. My phone connection is faster then that... Anyways I caught it and I'll see how long it takes.

 

With the Crunchyroll/Funimation partnership, both companies are going in together for streaming rights on new series, but Crunchyroll is taking the sub streaming rights and Funimation is taking the dub streaming rights for series that they pick up. Also, all dubs on Crunchyroll are being moved to Funimation and all subs on Funimation are being moved to Crunchyroll, so with that in mind, Crunchyroll should be retaining all of their subbed series.

I've noticed that Crunchyroll has a pretty terrible website. Funimation kinda does too. I only care about Android/Chromecast streaming though, so as long as they have a good app, I'm happy.

 

Or when something is local or from a friend. At least Naruto streams on Hulu....

 

Yeah I'm aware of the landscape but I'm always aware of the backend stuff of how they get the content out and encode it.. and it isn't the best although some of their limitations like not having subs / kara on the OPs/EDs is for legal reasons.

I use Plex and have a ton of shows downloaded onto my server so I don't have to deal with those services.
