    Yikes! It let me get halfway through checkout and then said "items in your cart have become no longer available" and removed them.

    Either/or. Amazon.com can just pull money from your amazon payments account when you check out. It's enabled by default if you have a balance in payments. As I discovered by accident when I let my sister use my amazon account to borrow my prime once.

    It doesn't really matter. I'd personally go Amazon Payments, that way you can spend exactly what you need without having spare change sitting in your gift card balance. Your Amazon Payments balance will show up when you checkout on Amazon.com to use as well.

    EDIT - I'm not awake yet, I can't English well.

    I see no reason at all to use the giftcard balance. You pay right out of payments account and you can transfer from that to your bank whenever you want. I usually just leave my balance there and as it gets over a certain amount transfer to my bank.
