Everyone in PC forums, PC FB groups, etc., are moving on to single high-res, ultrawide, etc.

    You're behind the times.

Oh, @smiley edna , since multi-monitor is going out of date, that will help you in one way (since I looked back and see you're Turking from a laptop):

Perfectly-good LCD monitors sell for ridiculously cheap at many thrift shops.
In my area, at least, you can find a 24" 1080p with no obvious issues at all for $20 or less.

So even though it may not be "optimal" like a single hi-res would be, that's a hell of a workflow improvement for almost no money at all.

In my experience, you're generally more likely to find a good deal at obscure thrift shops (St. Vincent, Humane Society, etc.) than mainstream ones (Goodwill), though.

    Yep.

I was going to edit my post to add this, but since you already quoted it:

The reason mainstream thrift shops like Goodwill are so picked-through is that a lot of people make a living buying from them and reselling on eBay. One of the florists that works at my grandparents' shop did this exact same thing, and quit working at the florist to sell on eBay full-time.

That's why it helps to try to find obscure ones if you want good deals.

I've considered doing this myself. I have 5 large thrift stores within 8 mile radius.

In my experience, this is one of those things that women generally just seem to be inherently good at, too.
Outside of electronics, I personally have no eye or judgment for what would make for a decent flip at a thrift shop.
But my GF has made a few great guesses, and the woman that used to work at my grandparents' florist obviously made a ton of them.
If you're really good at it, I know from second-hand experience that you can really make bank with this method. It's far from a pipe dream.
