That's how my local store is too. Plus, they carry Boodles, which is my favorite gin that no one else has. Only problem is that their wine selection sucks. It's so bad that I almost don't even drink wine anymore.

It feels weird that some of the craft beers are limited edition and come in wine bottles that cost $20+. I still remember when a six pack for $8 was high priced. Now I'm buying Lagunitas and Ballast Point Sculpin for $13. I guess that's the price of being spoiled.

I have a special place in my heat for immigrant workers. My dad was a farmer/still kinda is, and one of the guys who worked for him for years is the only reason he still has his thumb. When my dad goes, I'm going to make sure he has some nice things from his house and all. He's had a lot of great "Mexicans" work for him over the years, I despise how some people down there treat others that are "below" them. I'm going to do everything I can to get him and his family citizenship. Just pisses me off when people are so dense they forget that they're just human beings too. Sorry for my rant, I just love that dude and his family lol.

I hate agreeing with this, but it's a legitimate mental dysfunction. some of the shit you hear down here can only be explained in those terms.

Our store sells a lot of Evil Twin, which is like $15 and up for a 4-pack of 5.7% ABV beer. I'm cool with buying a nice high ABV bomber that's something limited edition, but like go to hell with your raspberry lemonade ale and doughnut crumble shit that isn't going to give me a buzz. They seriously have a 4 pack of this donut crumble porter crap by Evil Twin that is $30 in cans.

Also, you're lucky you can get Ballast Point for $13. It's almost all $18 for a sixer near us. I only ever get it at restaurants because it's somehow always priced the same as every other beer in those settings and it's definitely good stuff but they can kiss my ass for $18.

We've actually never told his dad, because I'm 90% sure his dad would immediately try and purge me.

His dad is a bit big on the uh, "pure family line," thing. Dude has gone so nutter butters at this point (living off the grid and all this shit now) it's not worth ever telling him. He's already deeply offended over my height, because he doesn't want short grand children.

    I wish I was joking but...nope.

My mom was so ostracized for not being born in the US as a kid, she changed her name to sound more americanized and would NOT let us speak Spanish growing up. We were not to learn it because she wanted us to seem as "American," as possible. It's really kinda sad. She changed her first name from Margarita to Margie and changed her last name too. It was a pretty name :/

And that's what's so fucked up about it and pisses me off so much. A) Your mom was American B) WHY CAN'T WE HANDLE OTHER CULTURES?! Why can't other people be different and it still be okay and cool and fun? I love hearing other languages living up here now. I live near a lot of various Middle Eastern and Indian folks and hear their dialects all the time, it's cool as shit! Sometimes I really hate being a white male.

It's funny you mention not speaking Spanish because I've gone up to Albuquerque a few times and the people there won't speak Spanish to other hispanics. I've seen them just completely ignore someone speaking Spanish. They also don't refer to themselves as Mexican and say Spanish.

"Do you want to get some Spanish?"
    "Spanish food?"
"Yeah, you know, enchiladas and tacos and stuff like that."
    "Oh, you mean Mexican food."
    "No, Spanish."

    Actual conversation I've had.

At least it's a world with delicious cupcakes, even if the asshat in line made fun of it.

I say Spanish food a lot as a broad reference to all hispanic foods. It's not uncommon for hispanic immigrant families to encourage their children not to speak any Spanish/appear as "american," as possible. I went to school with a lot of other kids whose parents had very similar hangups to my mother. I think she was afraid we would get yelled at and treated like crap too otherwise. She was in an orpahage where they smacked her with a ruler any time she spoke Spanish, and to this day she will refuse to speak it despite still understanding it very fluently.

I've been learning it a bit this year in an effort to talk to some of my spanish speaking relatives a bit more! I'm terrible at it, but at least I can ask people how they are in their native language now!
