    This is an interesting and common misinterpretation of how you get better at turking—the golden 5000 hits number suffers from this too. When you've never done qualified work (likely because you do almost entirely surveys), quals have a kind of mythical, Here There Be Dragons aura. You hear the words "closed qual," but you're not entirely sure what they are or how to get one, so you assume it's sheer luck that certain turkers have them (and also that it's impossible for you to get them) so they seem more like the reason you don't have money than a way for you to get money. And while it is true that you may never get access to that sweet sweet NLP or OCMP5 or VRAPI or Sergey or *insert qual of the month here* *RIP beloved GSB tax hits,* the great silver mturk wheel is always turning and new requesters will always come.

    Similarly, the 5000 number is traditionally seen as the It Gets Better point, but the significant bump in income doesn't come from the number itself, but rather the fact that by that point you've put a decent amount of time into the platform. It's dreadfully hard to get to 5K on surveys alone, and because of the high turnover rate a lot of turkers don't get that far anyway. The 5K is more of a symbol for your increased trajectory along the learning curve than it is the actual springboard.

    @jdzane As fun as it might be to get creative with names, you're falling in a trap that a lot of people fall into when they start a business, of trying to get way too "cutesy".

    Your name needs to be short, memorable, and easy to spell.

    These attributes will influence whether people can remember your name when they're recommending you to friends, and they'll influence whether people can find you on Google.

    Think of big brands like Walmart, Target, Apple, etc. They didn't try to get too clever. Many of these huge businesses have names that don't even seem to have anything to do with what they sell or anything.

    oh and apparently I've got a limit of 20 unaccented roman letters and numbers. Or at least something that can be shortened to that.

    I hope one day to take this to a full service party planning business, so I'm hoping to somehow tie that in so they are one and same one day

    @Ana* can vouch that you can start making money from day 1 on mturk if you know what you are doing. We (well mostly her) have been spoon feeding her brother information to catch him up to speed.
