ueah guess it annoys me because if the screener is longer I'm left wondering if the hit is broke so no code or I've been screened out. How much effort would it take to be less ambiguous

I don't know anything about sampling and methodology for psych surveys to disagree with you but I would guess excluding people based on reading speed has the potential to invalidate your sample. You can exclude the outliers for sure but the degree to which you have outliers would depend on each sample. I wouldn't consider 17 minutes above the average, or 25% slower, to be an outlier; that's a valid difference in reading speed or even familiarity with survey batteries.

Also when conducting remote experiments there are more variables in play. For a 90 minute survey theres a higher chance of one of those variables coming to play. Computers can freeze, routers have to be reset, internet can drop. Or qualtrics can have a hiccup which happened this morning.

I think most surveys conducted through mturk probably don't have a strong sample anyway, but that would exacerbate the problem.

    What do you mean?
You go in a room, you are told "your mission is to escape before the timer goes off", door is shut, timer is activated, you tear apart the room looking for clues.

Yeah, I get the idea of it. I meant how does it really work inside. It's not the same when you experience it.
