12/15 - CALM THE FORK DOWN FRIDAY!!!

Hi. I browse the forum now and then but today I finally signed up.

Seems like nobody likes the new site (the old site is still working so I am using that).

Just wanted to express my feelings on a few things...

Rather needing to install of these scripts, why doesn't Amazon design mTurk more worker-friendly? For example, set it up so that it operates like Hit Scraper/ Turkmaster -- every few seconds, it runs a search, returns the new HITs, allows you to accept/watch a HIT, block the garbage HITs, etc.

What do they expect -- every ten seconds a worker is going to click on "HITs available to you", sort through the garbage, and find a worthwhile HIT?

The workers use the site, so it should be designed for their convenience (and to maximize their earnings).

If people prefer the old site, why not leave it as it is?

I posted a message last night on Reddit (on Donovan's Turkmaster update thread) -- and he replied. Seems like he is not sure whether it will be possible to auto-accept/watch a HIT which is not currently available:

"Looks like there's a javascript error when watching a hit without auto-accept. When that error happens, it looks like the rest of Turkmaster is affected.

As far as watching a hit when there are no more left - there doesn't seem to be a way for Turkmaster to do that because of how the new site works. It's something I'm looking into, however."

As a test, I clicked on a ScoutIt HIT, watched it, and nothing happened. I then set Hit Scraper onto the new worker site address and ran a search -- and it worked fine. However, I clicked a survey, which was not available -- but I was not able to watch it. I was able to watch "All Hits available" but not that specific HIT.

I know a lot of people say that TM is outdated but I've tried the other ones (such as Pandacrazy, which I find confusing). TM is so simple -- if the HIT is not available, click on "watch", change the timer to "2 seconds" and "auto-accept" -- and that's it. Or, when a batch is running low, just click on "watch" and hoard them up.

Anyways, for the last month, mTurk has been my only source of income -- due to some problems with my brother, he is living with me and I cannot work outside my home (nor do I want to). If I cannot watch the good HITs (which half of the time are not available when they show up on HS), then my earnings will suffer. However, when I watch the HIT through TM, about 75% of the time I will be able to snag it.

Anyways, I am just a bit nervous this morning because I need mTurk in order to survive (and by survive, I mean barely surviving -- it is paying for basic food and shelter..and cheap rolling tobacco ).

 

I'd like to think mturk is more just than that, but it's really not most of the time.

Me tooooo. Got an email the other day saying I could do it and I can't.

 

It's one of those times where I start off with the best of intentions, but I'm lazy.

Normally, Matt wraps things cause he's super OCD about that stuff and his engineer hands are just better at perfectly wrapping anything. My hands twitch a lot so I lose patience quickly.

I do, however, pick out the best gifts. I'm super obsessive about that.

 

I'm really not ready for the change, worker site is yucky and I'm too used to the legacy mode of HIT Finder.

 

The email I got when I messaged them on the 12th said that it will START opening on Thursday and then early into next week. So that sucks. I originally had only read the Thursday part.

If you got an email from them and can't accept one, I would email them back.

i actually got an email yesterday and i accepted it from my phone but didnt have time to do it so it expired on me and i accepted it this morning again

I didn't realize engineers were supposed to have hands like that. And if so, mine are defective. They twitch a lot like yours (and just shake in general).
