    Automatic transmission? Make sure the gear shift is fully in park. Turn the key to on, shift out of park and back, making sure the gear lever is all the way forward, then turn the key back to off and try again.
    Make sure the key is turned all the way off and give it a jiggle if it's still having trouble coming out.

    Sometimes it’s the steering wheel too! If I have the jeep steering wheel turned a little too much to the left or right I can’t get the key out.

    And also the gear shift thing for sure.

    @DikDik I owned a 05 and I used to have a problem with the gear shift that would stop me from taking the key out and also starting it. If you play with the shiftter some it should help. I did need to take the plastice off once, it is pretty easy and you can do it in about 5 minutes.

    I got it! I couldn't get the little door below the wheel to come off but I ended up finding some compressed air while looking for pliers. A blast of compressed air got the key right out.
