    Aha! Number of HITS! Is this based on the number of HITs there're supposed to be between them? That seemed to be going all over the place for me for some time.

    It was 35 HITs per CAPTCHA. That's what the counter was based on in the past, at least.

    Captchas used to come about every 35 hits.
    They seem to be less consistent now, but I've had Masters since before the changeover so I'm only going off what I've heard from others.

    I've probably done a couple hundred HITs since the last time I actually did a captcha. It's worrying me that something sinister might be happening.

    To add to what @CorvusSapiens said when the hits are super quick (CI's and whatnot) I get 'em every 35 like normal. When hits take longer (CSATS, surveys and studies) sometimes I won't get one for 100 or so hits. @NBadger has a more solid theory on this but this is my experience.

    Pros:
    Good pay for the effort involved (mostly reading). Interesting topic.
    Cons:
    So much reading, though. Multiple stories with subsequent questions, one of which is unnecessarily long. If you're a slow reader like me, this is tedious.
