Use mayo instead of butter to brown the bread. Doesn't burn like butter but makes it brown and crispy.

 

That's exactly what I do. I also put lots of garlic powder on my grilled cheese which sticks good to the mayo.

I make it from scratch most of the time and use it sparingly, but you could rip my galic mayo out of my cold, dead Birb claws. I LOVE EGG YOLKKKKS!

That's how diners do it!
