Many, many years ago I was trying to get a software product working on a customer's enterprise network, and it just would not work. I opened a case with tech support, went through various emails, phone calls, kept following up, only to hear "we're working on it". Keep in mind that this was an anti-virus system and not having it up and running was a security risk.

Eventually I told my customer that we just couldn't keep going on like this, and we installed a different anti-virus solution which worked just fine.

Six months later I got a call back from the original tech support query. "Hi, just following up, did you ever get this resolved, blah blah blah". I said, "why, yes, I did get it resolved. I resolved it by installing a product from your competitor."

Brief pause.

"So, does that mean I can close the support ticket, then?"
