Warning, warning - vaguely angry rant ahead that is 100% in the realm of first-world-problem and may be utterly inappropriate to post here. I shall not whine if it gets modded into oblivion.

I think I posted here on the weekend I'd hit a huge pothole, and my car needs two new wheels+tires, but there's also additional damage to some mechanical car thing that's apparently important (tie rods or sway bars, I know nothing about cars).

The tow truck operator on Saturday night took it to his garage which also does repairs and says, hey, we can rent you a car. It's 9:00 on a Saturday night, convenient, price is right at $15/day, fine.

First thing Monday morning I called and told them my insurance company asked to have it moved to a different garage who they partner with. I feel a bit bad, but if I can save some money and get insurance to pay for the damage then I need to go that route. They're still making money from the rental car, so they aren't totally bereft.

I call them today, hey, I'm going to bring back your rental car as I have made other arrangements. No problem.

10 minutes later the garage owner calls me. He tells me the $15/day rental I'm paying is on the assumption they get to fix my car. As that's not the case, I'll owe them $29/day when I drop it off. I even understand his argument, rentals are a side business, workshop customers get discounted rates, I get it. But...

They've had ample opportunity to tell me over the past four days. I've spoken to three or four different people at times. I've visited their office a couple of times after telling them someone else was taking the car. They have my phone number. Telling me the price has doubled after I've already racked up the days; that's lame. Especially when there's a Hertz that I could've walked to from your shop, with new cars for the same price.

Oh yeah...this rental price doubling is for an 11 year old car, 150 thousand miles, airbag warning light is glowing on the dash, transmission keeps going "clunk", etc., etc.

I am not a satisfied customer.

The key word is the assumption, I would tell him that was not what you were told and that you will pay the 15 a day plus tax. End of story.
