I'm writing in regards to a research task (Daily Routines of Young Adults Study) posted by a doctoral student under your supervision Sumana Sri to the work platform of Amazon Mechanical Turk.

The research study posted by this student is completely unpaid with the very unlikely chance that you will win a lottery for an amazon gift card.

I can understand the need for graduate students to get unpaid research help, I completely sympathize. But I would like to make it completely clear that Amazon Mechanical Turk is a work platform, where workers expect to be paid adequate compensation for work done.

Academic requesters post their research tasks to the platform daily and offer fair compensation for the work done on their tasks. Instructors at this very university, I know from personal experience post work tasks to the platform and they offer a very fair wage for work completed.

I am unaware if you knew that this is occurring in your department. I thought it was best to bring it to your attention.

I think you're right. Back in the day I maxed out on those HITS
