    Driving through Bowling Green KY one time during one of the really big cicada swarm years, I thought they were gonna break my windshield. Being from South Louisiana, I thought I was used to cicadas. But not like that. Oh it was horrible. But I think when they come out they are so very pretty with their little iridescent wings drying off.

    The surprises were moving here to me were the walking sticks (like, WTF?), and the swarms of grasshoppers, especially a bit south of here. Coming from LA to IL I stopped at a Flying J on I-55 in Southern MO. Everything was covered with them. I cried the whole time I was getting gas.

    All I can think about is the time a big old muley buck was wandering around our college campus and this girl grabbed me and was telling me "Don't go out that door there is a big frickin deer out there" I was so confused. I had to stop her from calling animal control and tell her that that stuff is super normal around here and that deer are completely harmless unless you challenge them during the rut. If you see a bear or mountain lion though that's a different story.

    There's a small herd of deer that occasionally wander through my backyard. My dog really wants to play with them and doesn't understand why I tell him no.

    My GF has a pic of a neato stick bug we found while camping, but she's at the grocery store and told me I'm gonna have to wait for her to send it to me. Stickbugs won't even be relevant by the time I get the pic.

    First time I took my Springer Spaniel out pheasant hunting he decided to go after a deer. Chased the damn thing right towards me. I actually had to move to not get hit by this little doe and stupid dog. Deer passed me and my dog stopped and gave me this look like "Why didn't you shoot it I brought it right to you." During the summer he has been known to point at moths and flies waiting to flush em so we can "hunt" them. God I love him but he can be such a dope :emoji_sweat_smile:
