So they want to shoot someone for theft? That's crazy.

 

We had a rash of break ins and vandalism in my small (2k people) hometown. At my house they broke the motion lights outside, and stole cigs out of my car and used a knife to slash the cushion of my car backseat from one side to the other. Another house they broke into the garage, took a gallon of red paint from there and then broke into the house and painted the living room - furniture and all. The rest was just normal theft and vandalism or just petty stupidity. They finally got caught after a few weeks breaking into the cab of truck trailer... not realizing the owner was sleeping in it because he'd gotten home late and didn't want to wake up his wife.

 

Being shot for trespassing on someone else's property isn't that bizarre a concept.

 

That depends entirely on where you live.

 

typically the standard is "are you/did you reasonably think you might be harmed severely if you don't shoot"

some places it's not.
