I think all their quals are based on age and location (US) and nothing else. As long as you have those and they're what they want, you're good. I don't think there's any kind of action needed by the requester.

I just did one of them and it said I would have to wait a day before retaking it. It let me do the test for the first age > 18 one, but the age < 70 one just said "qualification submitted."

No I fully agree w/ you. This is my entire point about myself personally being too dismissive of TO's impact on the platform. I think that at the time it was probably w/o a doubt the tool the job required.

And what we have now is a gift from TO. Its a better platform because TO was built. Like no one could/should argue against that. But I think we can continue & improve upon it without the abject negativity TO has wielded to cultivate change in Requester practices. TO is a beat stick. Screw up and TO will beat your account so badly you have to either abandon mTurk or go make a new one because no one will touch your work - that doesn't work long-term. In fact it drives predatory behavior (account swapping, preying on newbies who don't know about TO, etc) of people who are truly determined to be malicious actors in the space.

I think shoving great work in front of people so they have no need to even pay attention to the crap is the direction to move towards. Want us to pay attention to your work? Make it great. Hell, make it barely passable mediocre but communicate and we'll find ways to make it work (UNU, C-SATs).

But that requires trust & forgiveness & a basic assumption that people are coming to this platform to make it a functional marketplace from both sides of the table (really all 3). It doesn't work if you run people off (Requesters, Workers, or Amazon themselves). People really don't understand the marketplace mechanics on mTurk. If Brelig disappeared tomorrow, it would actually be worse for most of us but folks would celebrate & call it a "win" because they're not looking at the entire ecosystem.

Of course, it also requires a reliance on Amazon to uphold the status quo. Luckily, and despite the many claims to the opposite, they're actually economically aligned w/ workers despite the reliance on Requesters as customers - so IMO its actually safe to "trust" Amazon as the neutral third party in our space. Something I don't feel holds true for platforms like Daemo.

No, I've been clicking that "take test" button every once in a while for about a year now, and every time it just takes me to the page that says I will have to wait 1 day before I'll be able to take the test again, and I click "start test"... and then it takes me immediately to the "Qualification requested successfully" page, and I go wtf? And then I repeat this process each time I notice the qual test anywhere. I wonder if it's just me? I don't have an age value, according to Sticky.
