The best interest bearing bank account you can have right now is a Goldman Marcus account. 1.6%, FDIC on the first 250k, low minimum, but no atm, only 6 transfers/month, and you can't park more than 1mil in an account.

 

Ally and Goldman both have 12 month CDs too, in the ~2% range, but that's obviously a lot less convenient than a savings account for most people.

I don't want @ChrisTurk to yell at me for continuing this discussion, but I'll post one more. When you think of interest accruing debt, understand that interest adds daily. If you break that down into Turking standards you can realize how many HITs you do a day just to stave off interest. However, if you never pay it down it will continue to grow. I personally transfer my earnings out in $50 increments. When the $50 hits the bank I immediately login to the account of choosing and pay it. For example: In the last 3 weeks I have sent 12 $50 payments to my car. I still make the monthly payment as well. When I finish that loan I will move to the next car, and so forth. I did the same to eradicate CC's last year. Once you free up some money then you can look to invest. Just my opinion...

One thing I forgot to add. When you pay off debt 1 you take that monthly payment amount and use that to pay the next debt. Example: Car1 had payment of $250. Car2 has payment of $400. Once Car1 is paid off you now pay at least $650 to Car2. Its like a snowball, your output remains the same, but the debt and interest drop significantly.
