If anime has taught me anything it is that gay love is the only pure love.

But seriously I'm always confused about how to respond to that one so I normally just put it in the neutral area.

 

I agree pretty much with @AMindAtTurk. Some people view traditional marriage as limiting, or think it's pointless because it's just a piece of paper, or dislike the idea of spending a lot of money on a dress/reception/etc. and conflate that with traditional marriage. You get the idea.

I know a guy who has been with his girlfriend for several years, and they just had a baby together, but aren't married. I don't know him well enough to know if that's because they just don't care about it (neither cold nor warm), or have some philosophical objection to getting married (cold), but if you asked them that survey question I have to imagine their response would not be high in the warm area.

tl;dr I guess if you are puzzled by the question then you're either neutral or warm. If you were cold then you'd probably have an immediate negative reaction to the idea of marriage.

This is actually the only reason I'm married. We'd been together for a long time, had a kid, but had no desire for a wedding. We realized the major change in taxes if we checked the "married" box instead...so we went to the courthouse

It's like the nature of the question is asking you to judge other people's relationships though.

At the risk of turning this political, I feel warmly towards marriage between any consenting parties. A guy and a girl get married? Happy for them. Two guys get married? Happy for them. Three girls and a guy get married? Happy for them as well. Think marriage is stupid and make a blood pact? Cool, happy for you.

Coming from that perspective, it's awkward to answer to me. Or maybe I'm just being pedantic.

 

Most of those things would not be "traditional" marriage though. It isn't asking your feelings toward marriage. The key word is traditional.

Right. That's my issue though I guess. The creation of a false dichotomy. Supporting gay marriage doesn't mean you have to feel coldly towards a couple who remained virgins until getting married at their Baptist church after which the wife stayed home raising their kids while the husband worked.
