    I highly suggest against getting a combo as it's less secure. Your best bet is to invest in a separate modem and router and then you can update the firmware if another security issue comes along. Also, now that WPA3 is coming, don't overspend and when WPA3 devices are on the market, invest in a good one to keep your home network secure.
