Are you using something like keepass to manage your passwords?

 

No I am not using anything to manage passwords...Moral of story..Im screwed?? Sooo confused lol

 

You should change your passwords rather regularly long strings of alphanumeric and symbols and not saving them in browser. Also do a pretty deep antivirus and antimalware scan first to check for any keyloggers and stuff. Don't want any new passwords stolen immediately

 

Sorry, I used to HATE when mods edited my stuff w/o comment, I thought I made a warning that'd send a message. I deleted it because I didn't believe the fuckboy reference was actually unspecified. FWIW You got the lighter end of the deal. I have no problems w/ the Stanley discussion so long as people keep it short of doxxing/encouraging such, that part of your post had nothing to do with why I removed it, sorry should have just edited it instead I guess. Nonetheless, I think you've expressed interest in being about making the world a better place, this is a great opportunity to live the mantra.

Folks, I'm trying to be lenient in pretty much all regards. No one banned from MTG has had their ban carry over here and I've been doing temp bans and deletions/warnings all around. But part of the problem that allowed a Stanley situation to even occur was the complete and utter lack of oversight over MTG. Part of ensuring that doesn't repeat here is going to be enforcing a bit more of a professional (or at least civil) atmosphere.

It is fairly easy to generate new secure passwords to whatever settings you want with keepass and other password managers.

Do be careful and make sure you back up your database and remember your master password

You gotta be really vigilant with computer security as the people making viruses and stuff are a step ahead of security compainies. Don't click any links you aren't sure about, watch out for vulnerabilities, keep things up to date, etc. Plus if it's possible for you, encrypt your hard drive and things.

It's not super good security to have your everything tied into on one program as if that's compromised everything else would collapse. No program is 100% secure and everything can be eventually broken and exploited.

 

You can use a key file if you are concerned. It has been audited in the past without any issues so I'm fairly certain that it is secure.. .and it isn't like you are saving your password in the browser or on a central server like lastpass does.

 

It might be because I'm old fashioned but I have it literally written down lmao. It is a lot better than having it saved in the browser, though I have some saved out of convenience and because it's stuff I don't want to dig out my book every time I need to use, though I change those with a lot more frequency.

 

If we assume that you can keep your local database file secure.. it is a lot better then the paper passwords you make.. You can have 100bit or so passwords quickly made and you never have to worry about remembering that or typing it in...both would take forever... But I mean as long as you don't keep forgetting your passwords for everything and just resetting it every time you need to log into it.. like my parents do... it is fine.

 

Simpler than that, how can you be sure you don't have a keylogger of some description. For most of us the answer is somewhere between 'not sure' and 'because my anti-virus told me so'.
