The situations you put yourself in, purposely or not, also effect you. When you only surround yourself with other cargo pant wearing, [insert niche hobby] obsessed folks, it's not shocking you might end up very unfamiliar on approp ways to talk to people outside of that small niche (and with aviation engineering, it's still very male dominated and very specific in the type of folks who are attracted to that field). There's definitely a higher % of people who also might gravitate to one job or the other based off their personality, so you get clumps of similarly minded people. Everyone is a unique flower and all that, but you should see how segmented Matt's job is. There are multiple cliques and very few people associate with more than one at his job. It's sexist AF at a lot of airports in general, and even though it's a small percentage of old crusties perpetuating that shit, it's a very influential mindset. People just flat out assume I cannot fly a plane without asking, despite the fact I live with a pilot/engineer and fly with him and have more hours than a lot of people he works with. They assume I just sit there and look pretty or whatever. It blows his mind, but it's such an irritating facet of the particular niche he works in and we've experienced it in multiple places. There are a lot of his co-workers who are thus very rude to ladies and seem to be confused how this relates to their lack of a dating life.

tl:dr- the decisions you make as an adult influence your behavior as well and there are careers where certain people gravitate to because they are a certain way

 

I've been trying to get a job like that. Unfortunately when I got hired, last week, for a shitty help desk role I had to quit because my babysitter quit on me. I have new childcare arrangements but the job is gone now. I usually work in Desktop Support type roles, which I really like.

Naw. There are like 5 Matts, a dozen Jakes, and a few of some other name at his job. They had all the Matts work on the same project and then all the Jakes on another. Everyone was very confused.

And then they promoted Matt the other day. He's now in charge of underlings, holy shit pray for those poor people. The great and terrible reign of boss man Matt has began. I can only imagine the nightmare fuel he is.
