I did that with the ambulance before I even called the insurance. I've gotten 2 more bills and a threat of collections from those a-holes. I'll call them on Tuesday before the insurance, but I'll definitely call the insurance too just to cover our butts. I'm not even worried about 2 years from now, I'm worried about them sending it to collections and that's a huge ass mess to deal with at that point because we had a radiology office send us to collections over 60 bucks (when our copay was 10 bucks and the insurance told me to send them the insurance info again and the 10 bucks...got a collections notice a week later. good job folks. great job doing your job).

What's so annoying is THEY ALSO MADE A PHOTOCOPY OF THE INSURANCE IN THE ER and I was standing right there. I make it a point to make sure people have the damn info because of fuckery I've had in the past (I once had a hospital wait so long to bill me, I had a different insurance company and the old one refused to cover it even tho I was under my policy at the time and gave the hospital the correct info. That took me like a year to sort out.) We've had this problem so many times recently, and it's almost always been a mistake from the doctor's end.

Why. Just why. Why why why.

Matt is just excited he has a medical bill anywhere in the ballpark of some of my wild ones (for morbid bragging rights of course lol). I once got a bill for half a million dollars tho, so he would have to really fuck up to beat my personal best. My favorite all time bill was 54k for "breathing services," which was 6 days of the ventilator. The kicker? I got that bill while still in the ICU. I was sitting there, still on oxygen, staring at my bill from the CCU that I incurred a few weeks earlier. I hadn't even left yet. My insurance was floored I got a bill while I was still admitted.


And now to wait for all the individual doctor's and services bills we will inevitably get, and I bet none of them will have billed the insurance either since they get their info from the hospital.

My longest hospital stay was 10 days, if I remember correctly. Nothing along the lines of what you're describing, just a bit of a nasty motorcycle accident. But it still involved orthopedic surgery, bits of metal being stuck inside me, all that good stuff.

Bill at the end - $0.00, because New Zealand ~= Canada for socialized medicine. There was a chance I could've been billed for the 10 days stay, in which case I would've had a $500 bill.
