I was very luck when I had my accident because I had no ins when they admitted me beyond what my auto Ins covered which was like 10,000 or something which I'm pretty sure was gone before the first day or very shortly after just with the ambulance, the 3 hours to cut the car open (does ins pay for that), ER, multiple x-rays of my whole body, CT, MRI and a 15 hour surgery. I could not imagine getting the bill while in the hospital. Someone did come talk to me once I was out of the ICU but they basically brought me the paperwork for the state INS and paperwork for a "grant" from them (it is a teaching hospital) They kept me there an extra 2 weeks because I needed to go to rehab before going home but they wanted to make sure all my ins was straightened out before they sent me anywhere else. took a little over 2 months but the state ins finally came through and the Hospital absorbed most of the rest of it I only ended up getting billed for a couple hundred not bad for 10 weeks in the hospital 7 surgeries and almost a month in rehab. Now the ins company has screwed me over a couple times since then but that could have very easily been the kind of bill that bankrupts people

We keep getting bills where they obviously aren't running the policy, followed by letters threatening collections if it's not remitted in 30 days, so I'm not gonna trust them to get it sorted out lol. This is the same hospital that has like 2 stars on google cause they are just a nightmare

I'm still paying off bills from not having enough coverage from then. It's bonkers that this happens to people. I'm lucky it happened when I was an adult tho, cause when I was in hs, I would have similar episodes of passing out and such (from the same condition) and my parents would let me just "sleep it off" for days at a time in the house because who wants to pay for a doctor, amirite? Kids, always with the passing out and daily vomiting! That's obviously not a problem! She'll just grow out of it! I was once bed bound for 2 weeks and my dad didn't think a doctor was necessary. Yikes.

I'm glad you were able to get the care you needed at the time! It wouldn't be as great of a world without your sparkling presence.
