I usually do, unless it's for some super obscure WebGL thing that I can't do in Firefox. So yeah, turn it off, I haven't seen one computer setup up yet that shows any kind of benefit with it on.

EDIT: I forgot you have an abnormally high amount of RAM, so you may not see any benefits.

 

go to settings.
In search search for "hardware"
it'll be the only thing that comes up.

 

Chrome/Settings/Advanced Settings/Untick box that says "Hardware Acceleration", near the bottom of the page.

Someone like my kid, who now has a WAY better setup than I've ever had, will probably not notice it. I think you mentioned you have a large amount of RAM, so you may or may not see a difference. But for the more budget minded (like my 7 year old dual core Pentium) it's a pretty big help.
