I study serial killers for fun (well, if you think studying the psychology of them, their genetics, their backgrounds, motivations, acts, family life, etc fun). Is it really that weird to you? Did they not cover the weirder spectrum of porn as part of your psychology training? They really should have as it would have been good to understand if you are going to be dealing with people.

Is it honestly at all weird to like shows/book/etc about serial killers and shit anymore? There are entire channels, subreddits, oodles of documentaries, etc devoted to this stuff now. Matt and I like watching forensic files and having bitter arguments about what we think happened. I don't think this is particularly unusual anymore- they even made a south park episode about couples watching murder docs together.

I think people would be shocked how many people (likely even on this forum alone) might have a similar enjoyment of something but just haven't declared it yet lol.

If that is what you want to focus on when helping people there is a lot of available material on porn addiction and how it affects lives and relationships.

But do we have to look at it when studying it? no (though I'm sure that is an option, I honestly NEVER took a class or seminar on porn so I admit I am not well versed in this area, nor am I an actual therapist or anything, just studied psych in undergrad and grad school - felt I should clarify that, lol).

I'm not sure a giant breast tumbling around while lactating would fall under "porn". I can check the DSM but I'm going with the guess that dismembered body parts fall under a different classification

 

I think it's pretty normal to have a curiosity for things that ook you out, and fundamentally, people that break those social mores are interesting.

Studying doesn't mean we want to imitate them (necessarily), I think some people are just drawn to things that are different because they're naturally curious in some way.

Definitely not weird anymore with how popular things like the ID channel are. Personally don't really see the appeal in such morbid things, but to each their own.
