So does anyone have a suggestion on a 128GB usb 3.0 flash drive? I'm looking at amazon and it really looks like a mixed bag. (my friend lost my old stick so he is buying a replacement)

But there must be more Megs flowers, Plumbers in Glasgow, Modest Mouse tickets, Locksmiths in Edinburgh, Airport taxi services, and portable photo booths in Austin. Am I right or am I right?

I would avoid Sandisk if you plan to make it bootable. Unless they've made changes in the last year or so they were making them so that windows looked at them like external drives instead of usb drives so they weren't working for boot drives.

I only use Cruzers, have for many years and never had an issue. Online reviews are typically taken with a very large grain of salt because most are idiots or doing things they shouldn't or just don't know what the hell they're doing... or paid shills to promote or destroy a reputation... but *shrug*

Speed tests only matter if you're trying to go bootable, run programs (i.e. games) direct from it or just impatient...

And can we have a moment of silence for Zoltars?:emoji_sob:

Don't know how you feel about HP, but I recently dropped my laptop (slightly) on it's side, damaging my USB stick that was plugged in. Got this new shiny metal HP 32gb 3.0 and I love it. I don't know if they make it in 128gb, but the 32gb is on point.

That isn't the only use case that cares about speed... I regularly throw lots of data on flash drives to give to my friend... and the write speeds on this would be painful to use.

metal usb sticks have the issue of getting hot as fuck if you try transferring a shit ton of data at once to them.

I've never had problems with sandisk drives. I'll usually go with them or samsung. I like low profile stuff though, so I would go with this one if it were me:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BGTG2A0/?tag=thtv0f-20

Totally. 95% of the things I buy aren't too terribly broken, but 100% of the things I buy have a bad review somewhere. For tech stuff, I feel like some bad reviews stem from the most common computer problem...user error. There's the paid reviews, but I feel like that might swing more in the opposite direction. The best thing a person can do is read up on a product from a handful of different sources before making a decision.
