Here is my best guess:

By default, XF handles user self-posts by itself (when you hit "Post Reply" from on the thread and you see it instantly get added that is XF doing the work, not TLU.

For probably 99.9999% of XF installs that is all that is really needed, so its fair to just assume there is absolutely no reason to re-add a user's own post to the thread, so they did to make sure there would never be "double" posts being added

For MTurk forums a lot of the posts are coming from off-thread so we kinda "break" the expected flow of things, disabling their "sanity check" (so to speak) actually makes the forum work better... but you might see yourself double posting sometimes, idk. It does check your position in the thread before retrieving "missing" posts but its possible to become desync'd I'd imagine & grab your own post twice if the TLU call comes at very unlucky points in the post flow.
