I think they're a big scam. I can't think of a thing they do anywhere I've lived. But if you're in the military or a big corporation, you pretty much should donate.

Military-wise, you can get away with not donating, but you're not going to get to senior NCO position without having run the command United Way drive at least once in your career. Least not in the Navy.

Where's that money go? I don't know what they do.

 

I have yet to figure out the March of Dimes mentality. The letter states that even a dime makes a difference... But in the package they always attach a real dime. So you're telling me that you sent me a dime that I am going to keep, that could have made a difference? Very uncool.

I feel this way about almost every single charity. When my son first got diagnosed (Autism) I tired several charities to try to help with therapy - it gets into the 10's of thousands a year - and they all said no, but they all ask for money and claim they are helping SO MUCH. Didn't help me. Didn't help any of the other parents with autistic children I know. It's all a scam.

 

Heh.... just like most other big charities. They are mostly scams. Susan G. Komen, Salvation Army, Goodwill (not a charity but most think it is)... the list goes on and on. If people want to donate they should find local organizations run by individuals not corporations.
