Though, I really should keep up with my bookkeeping. So far it looks like I made a pretty big mistake in my checkbook and I have more money in the checking account than I think I do. One year when I did this I had $800 extra in there. Maybe I wouldn't feel the need to turk so much if I balanced my checkbook more than twice a year.

I really like this for keeping track of things year round: https://www.moneymanagerex.org/ It's free and works pretty well for everything, but stocks. It works okay for those, but it's a bit overly complicated. I just spend 2-3 minutes at the end of the day putting my numbers in and double check against my other accounts once a month. It makes nice graphs and tracks by categories. Once I got in the habit it was pretty easy to keep up on.

And now that I've typed all that it sounds like I'm trying to sell it

I do everything online, lol. Which is why I can never trust the balance shown in the account online as I have many payments automatically scheduled for future dates. Or I go online and schedule payments for two weeks later.

I write all these in my checkbook so I don't accidentally overdraft on any given date. I'm supposed to type all of that into Quickbooks software then reconcile the account on the computer monthly to ensure I didn't make a calculation error in the checkbook. But I get lazy and don't do that.

I have a rental property, a duplex, so I have monies coming and going and all sorts complicated finances.

I manage other people's rental money for a living. I know how to do this properly. I'm just fucking lazy when it comes to inputting all of my finances into the software program, which I need to do so I can produce reports for my accountant.

Fortunately I never overdraft my account, always the other direction.
