    How about we talk about the ACH system which was designed and still operates on the assumption that bankers meet up in parking lots in the middle of the night to swap a suitcase full of transaction tapes. I mean it doesn't happen like that anymore, but it's set up like it does.

    This. Everything is still bolted onto the existing legacy ACH tech from 25 years ago. That's why there are no funding on weekends and holidays and only after the "ACH runs" at 2am. I've worked in technology for over 20 years in many industries including financial. We literally would turn off the ACH job for "bank holidays" so it just didn't run. Stupid shit.

    You are not even lying. The last company I worked for pays $1mil per year for an AS400 that runs *1* application. It's beyond mission-critical and they've failed at porting it to newer tech 2 or 3 times. 1 mil per year. I told them several times if they'd give me another chance to re-write it I'd do it in less than a year and they could pay me the 1 million and be done with it forever, I'd support it for free after that as an outside consultant. :emoji_wink:

    One of my friends in college actually learned COBOL because he figured he' have a guaranteed job since nobody else knew it.
