But a controversy no lol it wasn't done by Boston so not even sure if it made it on TV And I doubt it could even do anything to be honest, Tom is laser focused at all times so meh. I just find it funny because it would be YUUUUGE if reverse.

Hey, you had a bakery right? There was a bakery I loved when I was a kid that closed forever ago. Their frosting was a bit crispy on the outside but creamy on the inside. I've never been able to get that kind of consistency when I've made frosting. Any tips?

Yep. That's classic homemade buttercream. It's really hard to do unless you have a kitchen aid mixer. If you do have one, you take two sticks of real butter and use the paddle attachment to whip it up. Add a teaspoon of vanilla and about 3/4's of a bag of powdered sugar, a little at a time. Add milk a little bit at a time. You want it to the consistency that when you turn off the mixer the buttercream doesn't move AT ALL. No sliding off the paddle or anything.

If it's hard to spread out, stick your knife or whatever you're using to frost the cake with into hot water then spread it. It's called a crusting buttercream.

I've made it like that before. It just doesn't work out the same for me:(

Maybe some of it's nostalgia and I'm just remembering it better than it was. I was only 7 or 8 when they closed and I didn't eat there often but it was the best I'd ever had. And to give you an idea of just how long ago it was, the jumbo cupcakes were 50 cents. I think the regular sized ones were a quarter. All I ever had was those cupcakes. My aunt says they had the best long johns. I looked them up online to see if anyone had ever posted their recipes anywhere. I've found a few places where people talk about how good their rolls and angel food squares were. I wish one of the family would reopen the place. The building is still there, the trompe l'oeil painting is still on the side although faded now. They put a fancy restaurant in there in the last few years but it closed, Kind of pricier than the people in that neighborhood could afford. Bet a old fashioned bakery would do okay though.

Someone bring me a time machine. There are so many foods I wish I could eat again.

I'm not sure why it wouldn't work for you :( Some people use half butter/half crisco, that may do the trick for you. But really, it's all about getting the right consistency of the buttercream.
