Every animal in my house ignores these things. The cats are pretty good about using their box even when the kid forgets to clean it. But my dog? Who is an ass and who I know for a FACT can hold it for up to 8 hours as she is crate trained, will literally find the area of carpet I did not blanket with pee pads and piss there, leaving the 8 pee pads perfectly dry with only paw print indents from where she walked over them to the bare carpet.
