This set me off to new levels of aggression that I was not aware of. I asked my daughter, "what's the answer?" she did the basic math and I said yes. THEN she said but I HAVE to do it this way. and I said who's ing idea was that?????????????? To this day (this has been a certain number of years ago) I get flashbacks when I see a line that has numbers anywhere around it. lmao

 

I hope that the problem has to do with identifying irrelevant information in word problems, 'cuz if they have to teach 7th graders how to divide 14 by 2, we're doomed.

It was the typical "last problem in the worksheet" problem that is usually a headscratcher and a lot of kids need help on bc their little brains have trouble thinking. I always had trouble with them, anyway.

 

I've always been good at math, and my daughter has brought home some shit that I had to email the teacher about, and I have a college degree...

(not saying i'm better than anyone, just this shit is confusing)

we were taught the equation and how to use it. insert the x, the y, get the solution. Common core is supposed to explain why the rule works, usually in what seems like an over complicated mess or broken down numbers and charts. Or line graph things. I understand wanting students to get why the rule works, but a lot of it seems like it could be explained in the classroom once then let them use the damn equation and move along.

You need to leave an 11 inch space in the middle for the picture to hang in, that's what gets you.

 

I actually love common core, too, but I totally understand the frustrations that are out there. It was implemented poorly, to say the least. When starting at a Pre-K/K level and continuing on it's much easier for everyone.

 

but in real life, you'd divide that wall in half and hang the picture there. because wtf kinda frame doesn't have the frame hang from the center?

 

Well if you did it that way, then the answer would be 7, which is wrong so.................

 

Why does the picture have to be parallel to the wall?

 

Is 5 an odd or even number in picture hanging universe? That will change things up.

 

And then 6 months later they sometimes fall off the wall.

Extra fun if you used a glass frame and it shatters after it falls at 2AM.
