Well yes and no. We discovered the answer a few pages ago, but now we're just Grinching on the unreliable facts of word problems and other weird maths.

 

I don't get this though cause I went to school long before common core and we were always taught why a rule worked in an uncomplicated way. We were never just told do it this way and don't worry about why.

I mean granted we were expected to memorize basic math bacts of addition subtraction and multiplication but they were explained first we understood why the answer was what it was but higher level math i.e division is easier if you know your multiplicaion tables and don't have to go through hoops to get every step along the way

common core seems to over complicate the rules but like I said this came way after my time and my kids schools dabbled in it but never really embraced it.
