Too many places tell me "oh we don't mind colored hair" and then pass me up, and other places outright say its not okay.

I don't get with the push for mass acceptance of things like sexuality and religion that some colored hair still bothers people. Be like hey Brown is "colored" hair too.

 

I dont think of it as much as what the employer is looking for, but rather what the employer thinks the customer will think of thier business when an employee has colored hair. Obviously this rule doesnt apply when you work behind the scenes like I do. Plenty of people in my department have hair color that is far from flattering, but any suggestion I would give is hold off on coloring your hair until after you accept the job and have some time in the office.

 

I meant that from a customer facing thing too from the customers view. People are just over judgmental all around I guess still. But I get what you are sayin.

Thing is, I'm a counselor, usually in addictions. Our clients have tattoos. They have piercings. they have colored hair. My clients have told me in the past they felt my hair made me more relatable, because I was a real human. So yeah, in my field, it really doesn't make sense to scoff at those things that make you human.

 

Well i hope you brought up those kinds of things during your interview. Make it a point that you do color your hair or you got that dragon tattoo on your face because you felt your clients helped you relate better to them.
