So I kinda get where she is coming from only because when I was asked if I'm raising children I always say, "Oh, hell no. My end goal is not a child. My end goal is a responsible adult male, future husband and future father."

However, I FULLY believe in letting children be children. My kid is 14 and he's still, in many ways, very much a child and THAT IS OK. He's got a bazillion years ahead of him as an adult. No need to rush it.

I do have repeated to him what I said above all of his life so he would understand decisions I have made. He "gets" it now, and sometimes even says to me, "Just practicing for when I'm married/a dad/an adult."

Oh no, see I get that. My mother raised me and my brother to be adults. I'm talking calling them a child at all emotional and psychologically hurts and undermines them is what I was told. Straight saying that if they hear you refer to them EVER as a child it can forever stop them from becoming fully okay with themselves as an adult or some shit.
I plan on if/when I have a child raising them with the intention of teaching them the things my folks never taught me about being an adult, but when they are like 5, yeah, that's my 5 year old kid.
She wanted me to refer to them as young people or nothing at all. That was like 3 years ago and she has since basically barred me from seeing them because of small issues like this.

Man I'm sorry you have to deal with that. I have a psycho SIL myself and haven't seen my nieces and nephews in forever, but my other SIL is golden so I do get to see their kids.

She took my brother and basically 100% baby trapped him and changed him fully as a person and now hates me and my husband SPECIFICALLY for being conservatives. I really shouldn't vent about this here but I'm still pissed about it.

It's that tier of silly too. I said 'Goodnight baby girl!' when the second one was 2-3 years old and apparently when I walked away she whispered to her mom 'I'm not a baby' and started to cry. That was apparently the tipping point where I had gone too far.

You just never get to choose who your family marries! Glad you at least got one good one!

I am lucky. Man that's awful. the only reason that kid cared is cause mama put the idea in her head. I call my friends "kids" (they're 18) baby girl and kiddo. Hell i've called everyone in HERE kiddo. Let's be banned TOGETHER!!
