LOL! That's funny. "No, honey, we don't eat puppies!"

When I was on a farm we raised all sorts of animals for meat. My parents told me not to get attached, so I tried not to.

We also raised bunnies. Not for meat I thought. I mean, who eats bunnies when you have pigs, cows and chickens? And a goat. I loved those rabbits. I hung with those bunnies in the barn often.

I came to the dinner table one night when I was 16 and found a pile of fried meat in the middle. Looked pretty tasty.

Next to my plate was a furry rabbit's foot that I recognized. My step dad thought I would like it. He really did think I would like it.

My reaction to finding out what animal comprised the fried meat is the reason my parent accepted that from that day forward I was no longer eating any meat.

I was mostly vegetarian from then on until I got pregnant with my first kid and went so anemic I didn't have a choice.

I still don't really eat red meat.

 

I'm always here. Watching. Waiting.
