I mean, it was one thing to have a key and another to like...make your own dinner at 6 cause you wouldn't see anyone at home all night lol. The key wasn't sad, so much as the fact I never really had anyone around the house much.

 

I actually learned to love alone time for this reason!

 

Our mom almost always worked two jobs so she wasn't around much either, but at least when we were younger we got dumped at relatives houses instead of sitting home all day.

 

Maybe this is why I like alone time so much Matt says I like "roosting in my nest."

"Stylin"

 

I always think about how my dad is lucky I was just not a bad kid. That easily could have ended very differently. I used to have my friends over when I wasn't allowed to like...make waffles with the money I scraped together pulling recylcables out of trash cans in the park and shit like that. I was a weird dinner party, food making hostess even then!

My Nana Bunny and my Uncle Warren (godfather) always offered to just let me hang with them, but my dad insisted on independance and the boxed them out over time. My sister would send her boyfriends/friends to check on me at times, just so she could verify I wasn't dead or something. I always refer to my step-mom as my former babysitter, but she was actually just one of my sister's friends who would come around to check on me. She did teach me how to ride a two wheel bike tho, cause everyone else forgot and I was a super anxious kid who was too freaked out to teach myself. It probably took all of 30 minutes but it meant something to me at the time (well, still does).
